Biography

Christian was born in Quebec City in 1959 and has been practicing photography since 1976. He studied film at Laval University from 1977 to 1980 and took courses on Photoshop at Cégep de Sainte-Foy in 1995.

He worked for 5 years in a professional laboratory where he produced large format prints up to 8 x 10 feet murals for exhibition booths and museums.

He then worked for 3 years as a professional commercial photographer using medium format film cameras and professional flash lighting, either in the studio or directly in the clients' offices.

Since all these years, he has never stopped practicing photography and exploring all kinds of techniques in order to make different and attractive images.

Artistic approach

Christian discovered photography at the age of 16, in the mid-70s. His first camera, the popular Canon FTB, bore the logo of the 1976 Olympic Games.

At the beginning, already captivated by colors, shapes and contrasts, he was immediately tempted to explore some special effects in the darkroom. The results were sometimes spectacular, but it was rather difficult to control the effects well and to reproduce the same print in several copies. Today, thanks to digital processing, it is much easier for him to work on these images and to obtain results that really correspond to the perception he has at the time of shooting. Moreover, some software allow him to go really far and create impressive images thanks to special effects and the combination of different photographs.

He is still passionate about the image, and it is still the shapes, colors and contrasts that attract his attention. In the middle of nature or in the heart of the city, he loves to walk quietly and observe the play of light that modulates the different objects around him. But what is really good today is that with all the tools available, his only limit is his imagination...
