Interpretation of the work by the artist:
Depiction of goalkeeper Murray Bannerman Chicago Black Hawks late 70s early 80s displaying a bold and bewitching gaze behind a distinctive mask typical of a Japanese or Chinese theater. This work was the very first to be executed in ribbon hockey. It was part of the solo exhibition Cerbères: behind the mask which represented guardians of yesteryear with anxious eyes and alarmed concentrated by their challenge to protect the doors of the temple like the Cerberus.
Le regard du guerrier - René Bégin
René Bégin's intention from the start was to bring a story to life through his works. Telling strong moments, common emotions as well as everyday scenes, his works shed as much light on moments of sports and urban history as on simple cultural and social life.
After several years of experimentation and stylistic research, he has developed a new and unusual pictorial technique with field hockey tape on wood panel that is suitable for the sports scene but also for any other context.
