Biography
Born in Abitibi, Sylvie Fournier lived in Montreal for a few years. She now lives in the country in Montérégie, a peaceful place of contemplation, where she practices her art both outdoors and in her studio.
The creative world and the arts have always been a part of her life. In high school, she chose to study Fine Arts. After graduating from the CÉGEP du Vieux-Montréal, she continued her training in Graphic Design, in printmaking with Pierre Ayot and in teaching at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Curious, she has never stopped learning. Several trainings have also marked her path, among others: psycho-pedagogy of plastic language with Michèle Théoret, followed by a Master's degree in education management from the University of Sherbrooke, exploration workshops with Seymour Segall and Tania Lebedeff have allowed her the freedom of creation and the expression of her inner image. Whether it is figurative or abstract, the starting point is spontaneity and instinct!
She appreciates the exchanges between artists as a member of associations: Galerie Arts Sutton, Gallea, Artxterra, collage artists, free painting workshop of Saint-Hyacinthe. The creation of a group of painters from the St-Bernard workshop and her participation in the creation of the Ville Aime Art printmaking workshop are proof of her interest in these exchanges. At the same time, she has led art workshops for children and adults.
Her participation in several juried exhibitions has earned her recognition including: Galerie Arts Sutton - Les rendez-vous Arts Sutton (2020 and 2021 - 2 times jury prize) and the Collectif des membres artistes ( 2020 - special jury mention)
Artistic approach
Her creative approach is only the tip of an iceberg immersed in an atypical career where all her activities testify to her hyperactive temperament and her immense curiosity. She has always refused to imprison herself, she refuses nothing, she is not in search of a style. She creates in search of something new. She believes that this mission of the artist is also a pleasure, that of exploring new techniques, unusual materials and unexpected juxtapositions! And what can be said about the surprising chance of a spontaneous gesture, translating an obvious intention to never break the initial dynamic line, offering a wider palette to the expression and its interpretation.
The rhythms that emerge from her paintings express, like clichés, her inner landscape. She uses, according to the inspiration of the moment, what touches her, what speaks to her, whether it is collage, textures, colors, monochrome, forms, monotype, acrylic paint or oil; all of which are primers to an unusual pictorial organization, each with its specific evocative charge. Everything is a pretext to create a dynamic organization that leaves the freedom of expression and interpretation in search of a composition that always testifies to a dynamic impulse; whether in an abstract or figurative work to produce an image that is constructed, so to speak, by itself.
What she seeks is that the viewer initiates a visual and intimate experience with a work that makes it his own, even beyond its intention. Is this not the artist's purpose and ideal?
